Exploring Placing your Feet Useful Info

Exploring / Shopping / Home Improvement etc

So now you’ve plodded (or stepped over) your way through the boring stuff of moving, you’re here!  What next?

New Town Exploring…..

Bend is quite fascinating to figure out – everything is NE, NW, SE, SW, S or N on street signs, and once you know which direction you are facing, it’s a no-brainer, well except for me – it took a couple of days but ya know, I got it down!

One thing I noticed quickly – there’s very, very few streetlights!  So if you’re venturing out after dark it’s a little difficult until you really get to know your way around, on the other hand, you can see the stars again!

I went exploring by myself for the first week or so, visiting parks, walking downtown, driving up to Mt Bachelor to check out the road/drive/mountain even though it’s not open yet.  Getting a feel for where I now live, helped.  Mapping out where your favorite stores are – Trader Joe’s, Target, even Costco, and if you’re stuck, believe me everyone here is incredibly friendly and helpful!

Meet-Up.com is an amazing place to start to meet new people.  They have a group for everything – hiking, happy hours, book clubs, blogging (yep I’m going to that one to learn more!), every subject you can think of and if there’s not a group for your particular interest, it’s super easy to start one – check it out wherever you move to!

Here’s a handy map to give you an idea as to where everything is – hope it helps!

Happy Shopping !!

Cascade Village Mall:

Best Buy, Home Depot, Target, Trader Joes, PetSmart, Lane Bryant, Famous Footwear, Ross, World Market, Bed Bath and Beyond and more! (Lowes is just north of the Mall)

The Forum:

COSTCO, Barnes and Noble, Old Navy, Safeway, and other smaller stores

Bend Factory Stores:

Nike, Columbia, Pendleton, Eddie Bauer, Carters Kids and other smaller stores

The Old Mill District:

American Eagle, Bath and Body Works, Banana Republic, Chicos, Gap, J.Jill, R.E.I., Sunglass Hut, Victoria’s Secret, White House/Black Market

Bend River Promenade:

Kohls, TJ Maxx, Macy’s, Hobby Lobby and more smaller stores..

There’s also a Dollar Tree, Ace and Grocery Outlet on the south 97 in town. The Post Office is in the Downtown area which is full of small shops and restaurants, bars and plenty of parking and the DMV is on the NW side of the 97 on the way to the Cascade Village Mall.

ALSO – https://www.visitbend.com/ is a great place to start exploring online too, it’s helped me, as well as having google maps handy on your phone at anytime!!!

I was a forever San Diego/Lake Tahoe gal for 37 years until I visited Bend and fell in love ... with everything about this beautiful city. I raced back to So Cal, got a moving van, packed everything I loved (and couldn't live without) and hit the road for Bend, Oregon. Just like that. Now I'm a "Bendonian" discovering everything about the city and surrounding areas. And I want to share it all with you, the good, the wonderful and the best places to shop and eat. So I started this blog to document both the journey and to find ways to make it easier for you when you pull up stakes and strike out for your own life in Bend!
